General

Bar-Ilan University is prepared for different emergency scenarios, including medical support and assistance for on-campus casualties as well as for national disasters. We have set for ourselves the following targets:

  • Saving lives
  • Limiting the number of injuries and minimizing damage to infrastructure
  • A quick return to routine
  • Continuing with essential services for the population and for study and research on campus
  • Aide in the national effort

The emergency teams activated on campus during a state of emergency include the on-call security team, the hazmat on-call team and the volunteer paramedic team, each of whom has the capability of expanding the number of responders on site, to allow maximum cases to be treated during the event in minimal time.

At the national level, Bar-Ilan collaborates and is in full coordination with the Home Front Command (Ganim district), the Ministry of Economics and Industry, the local authority (the Ramat Gan Municipality), and of course with the Israel Police, the Fire and Rescue Services, MADA, the IDF and others. Let us stress that handling of an emergency includes many of the university’s teams and systems that are administered by the Emergency Headquarters of the Universities.

In the event of any emergency, the phone number for reporting is 03-5317777

Conduct during rocket attacks

The Bar-Ilan campus is defined in the Home Front Command’s siren system as “Dan 161”, but there may also be impact from warning identification of adjacent polygons. The guidelines (click here) that apply to the general public on campus are the same ones that apply nationwide, but Bar-Ilan has an advantage of deployment of shelters and outdoor protected areas and capabilities of unidirectional communication through a public address system throughout the campus.

Conduct during an earthquake

In the event of an earthquake, Bar-Ilan will operate as per the guidelines (click here) of the Home Front Command and the emergency service authorities. The local authorities responsible for providing emergency services to Bar-Ilan are the Ramat Gan Municipality, who will assist with emergency teams operating at Bar-Ilan and with the other systems deployed on campus. Again – Bar-Ilan has capabilities to operate completely independently in the event of an earthquake, including independent water and electricity infrastructure. What must be emphasized is that high priority be given to the many open spaces on campus, the large number of shelters and outdoor protected areas and the importance of active initiation of shutting down gas supply infrastructure in laboratory buildings.

You can learn more about preparedness for earthquake scenarios in the following videos from the Home Front Command and the National Emergency Authority.
